Summary of Track: Transitioning a Church to a Disciple Making Focus
Craig Etheredge is the Lead Pastor at First Collierville and leader of discipleFIRST Ministries. The ministry of discipleFIRST exists to multiply disciple making churches locally and globally. As a team, they talked about key movements in disciple making: from addition to multiplication, decisions to disciples, programs to process, and other key shifts in a disciple maker’s life. The focus of this track is on how a church transitions, not just an individual disciple maker. The transition is not about programs, but about the process of becoming a church focused on making disciples — where that’s the primary focus.
If you’re a church pastor, leader, or member and you’d like to learn how a church as a whole makes this massive shift (massive in our culture today), then take a listen to these great resources from discipleFIRST.
Article: “How Pastors Can Build Church Structure for Disciple Making” featuring discipleFIRST Ministries. Excerpt:
From our recent podcast interview with Craig Etheredge, the Lead Pastor at First Collierville and leader of discipleFIRST, I gained insight about how a pastor can create a church structure that supports disciple making. The problem is that many churches are not set up to facilitate disciple making in an organized way. It’s random, haphazard discipleship. So the question for pastors is, “How do they create a church structure for disciple making?”
