Important Update: 2025 National Disciple Making Forum

Dear Discipleship-first friends,

I wanted to share with you some important new details about the 2025 National Disciple Making Forum.

When: May 7 – 8, 2025

Where: The Church Project, Houston, Texas

Theme: Best Practices in Disciple Making

Speakers: Jason Shepperd, Jim Putman, Josh Howard and more …

Those who follow Discipleship.org will note the date for the 2025 National Disciple Making Forum is the same date we announced at the end of the 2024 National Forum, however, please note the location has changed from Indianapolis, IN to Houston, TX.

There are several reasons for this location change and the most noteworthy is the host church. Led by Jason  Shepperd, The Church Project, located in Houston, is a church that has stood out in our national research work as one of the top disciple making churches in North America. We are grateful to be gathering for the National Forum on their campus and they will join a group of other church leaders who will show us some diverse but effective disciple making models.

Here are two of the other new distinctives for our National Disciple Making Forum in 2025:

From Shotgun to Rifle –

Our vision is to see disciple making cultures in 16% of churches in North America because that will be a tipping point – once 16% of churches reflect disciple making cultures, then it will likely change the way people experience church in most places (it will change the way we do church). To pursue this vision, we will be getting more prescriptive about what is platformed at our National Forum. We will no longer feature so much diversity in disciple making approaches (the shotgun approach), instead we will be more prescriptive promoting specific systems and strategies (the rifle approach).

Best Practices –

As I referred to earlier in this post, we are in the midst of conducting objective research seeking to identify the most effective disciple making churches in North America. We are pin-pointing, interviewing, and testing the churches that are being recommended to us so that we can identify models and examples. Starting in 2025 and moving forward we will seek to feature the best practices and the best practitioners of Jesus-style disciple making. Our 2025 National Forum will be the first to feature what we are learning and the insights of the top practitioners.

I want to personally encourage you to…
