As we discipline ourselves to focus on Jesus, Jesus needs to permeate the thoughts of our day. It is helpful to try to make Jesus the first thought of your day and the last. When your eyes open in the morning, think of Jesus. When your eyes close at night, think of Jesus.
He is the alpha and omega of all things – the first and last. This is the Greek way of saying Jesus is A-Z, Lord of all. We find this language in Revelation,
Revelation 1:8 – “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 21:6 – ““It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.”
Revelation 22:13 – “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
Jesus is the originator of everything we know. He is master/lord of all that is or ever will be. He is Lord over each and every one of us and in the end, every knee will bow and tongue confess him as lord (Phil 2:10-11).
As you start your day today and as you finish it, let the name of Jesus be on our lips.
As you start your day today and as you finish it, let Jesus be on your mind.
And may you go throughout your day today with Jesus as your primary thought.
As you make Jesus the start and finish and Lord of all things throughout your day you will find little by little that he permeates more and more of your life. It will move from days to weeks to months to years. A Jesus culture will form in your life. Jesus will go from alpha and omega of your day to alpha and omega of your life.
He will bring us the peace that passes all understanding and guide us throughout our day.
This is discipleship.
How do you keep Jesus at the forefront of your thinking during the day?
