Featuring: Marcus De Carvalho, M.D.
Time: Thursday, October 11th at 8:00 pm Central Time
Dr. Marcus De Carvalho, will share his passion to help people regain their lives and become “unstuck” from the addictions and mental illnesses that have kept them in the darkness.
We will discuss his new eBook Untangling Addiction, in his book he illustrates how the brain becomes “hijacked”. This “hijacking is so intense, the brain believes it needs addictive substances to survive in the same way it needs basic substances, such as food and sleep. In the book, he shows how repetitive behaviors involving drugs, alcohol, gambling, and pornography will inevitably cause the brain to believe that it needs the addictive behavior/substance in order to survive. In this way, the individual becomes “stuck” in their addiction and the brain is “hijacked”.
Dr. Marcus De Carvalho will introduce hope, and the ability to overcome this “hijacking” of the brain by utilizing the concept of neural plasticity. Most importantly, he teaches that discipleship and true discipling relationships are the only ways we can truly overcome and maintain long-term spirituality and sobriety.
